ÿI came under conviction when I was very young. I prayed to the Lord and thought that I had been saved. I did not seem convicted of my sins any more. Later, in the military service I was a paratrooper and I felt no fear when I jumped. I was involved in an automobile accident which broke my neck and ended my military service. I almost died, but I did not feel any fear of dying. I became an automobile mechanic and my hobby was racing cars. A car ran over me and I was hospitalized for almost a year. That accident also could have taken my life. Then, my wife Hattie was attending a revival at Independent. She returned home one night and told me she had been saved. Something came over me and I realized that I did not have what she had. The next day, I was afraid to crawl under a car. If it should fall on me and I died, I would go to hell. I went to church the next night, went to the altar and prayed for salvation. God gloriously saved my soul. I was filled with joy, peace, and love for everyone. I know I'm saved and I thank God for sparing my life until I was saved.
"The voice of him thata crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God." [Isiah 40:3]---(Prophesy of Isaiah concerning John the Baptist who would come preparing the way for Jesus Christ.)
Ed was the husband of Hattie Ellis. Ed's health did not permit him to attend church as often as he would like, but he prayed for his fellow Christians and for the progress of the church. He enjoyed preaching and gospel singing. Ed went home to be with his Lord in January of 2002.
